Adjustable Timing Wheel by Mazda Motorsports
WARNING: May contain chemicals that may cause cancer or reproductive harm.Much improved, Mazda Motorsports has a new stainless steel timing wheel approved for NB Miatas by both NASA and SCCA. By making this version thicker, it can better handle harmonics and vibrations at the sustained high revs Miatas see. This new design gets the offset off of the face of the harmonic balancer so that it's able to work at its full potential. The flat one diminished the harmonic balancer's ability to dampen engine vibrations because it took the center section and directly connected it to the outer section.
The laser etching allows for an accurate setup, placing it at top dead center and making the 20 degrees of available adjustment fairly simple to navigate. The wheel has no powder coating to melt. The adjustable time wheel is designed to allow an ignition adjustment range from 6 degrees BTDC to 16 degrees BTDC to accommodate both naturally aspirated engines that benefit from timing advancement, and also turbocharged engines that require retarded timing. This part replaces the factory encoder (timing) wheel located behind the crank pulley on 1999-2005 Mazda Miatas, VVT included. No modifications needed
